About the role
The Advanced Clinical Coder is required to participate in a team environment to ensure the accurate and timely collection of morbidity data to meet data reporting requirements of West Moreton and Queensland Health. The position is responsible for Liaising with hospital clinicians in order to improve the quality and timeliness of morbidity data and Activity Based Funding (ABF).
Under the direction of the Clinical Coding and Data Quality Manager, guide and mentor the Clinical Coders in accordance with organisational goals, guidelines and standards. Participate in Health Information Management Service related quality activities, including auditing, education, Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) and Performance Indicators for Coding Quality coding audits. The Advanced Clinical Coder is acknowledged as having high level clinical coding skills and knowledge across a broad range of specialties in a tertiary setting through a minimum of 2 years coding experience.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated ability in the classification of diseases and operations across a broad range of specialties using ICD-10-AM with a minimum of 2 years clinical classification experience including the ability to interpret and apply coding standards in the analysis and coding of patient data and maintain knowledge of coding standards, practices and systems
- Provide education to clinicians in advising them on clinical documentation for coding and activity based funding.
- Ability, clinical knowledge and confidence to conduct direct coder-clinician liaison activities and liaise with hospital clinicians in order to improve the quality and timeliness of morbidity data and ABF.
- Understanding of Activity Based Funding and its relationship with Diagnostic Related Groups, patient demographics, hospital admission, transfer and discharge data and related processes relevant to funding optimisation and healthcare management.
- Ability to participate in quality improvement activities (including coding audits) in relation to coded data and coding processes.
- High level interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and negotiation skills with the ability to liaise with staff at all levels, and provide audit feedback to work colleagues.
