This role provides significant support and advice to centre management to promote and embed a safety culture across the centre and assist with the implementation and review of the centre's Health and Safety framework. This will ensure both the centre and Queensland Corrective Services meet its legislative obligations associated with workplace Health and Safety. This includes the co-ordination of rehabilitation, return to work programs and environmental services with a focus on achieving positive outcomes for staff and the Agency
- Provide accurate and timely Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) advice in accordance with Queensland Correction Service policies, procedures and relevant legislation including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011;
- Conduct and/or organise management systems audits and analyse WHS data, determine risk profiles to allow prioritisation, promotion and learning from identified hazards and risks.
- Consult, negotiate, liaise and provide high level advice and recommendations on a broad range of Health and Safety and related training issues to all business units and managers including chemical management, incident investigation and risk management.
- Assist and support analysis of workplace hazard, incident and rehabilitation data to establish risk profiles, identify emerging risks, prioritise audits and risk assessments, and support continuous improvement of the safety management system, in conjunction with HSRs, managers and the Health Safety and Wellbeing team.
- Support managers, HSRs, and workers through provision of advice relating to effective consultation, collaboration and engagement on safety and wellbeing matters, assessing information as required from a range of internal and external sources.
- Coordinate Health Safety and Wellbeing compliance activities including coordination of WHS Inspections, consolidating and reporting outcomes, undertaking validation audits.
- Support managers, HSRs and workers to develop networks that foster representation, consultation and participation and promote a positive safety culture.
- Undertake various WHS related projects that align with Departmental strategies for improving work Health and Safety performance as required, including mentoring and training programs, workshops and presentations, including application of contemporary digital solutions.;
- Coordinate the elections, the training requirements, and the maintenance of records and provide overall support for the functions of Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) in the workplace.
- Assist management in ensuring all hazards and incidents occurring in the workplace are reported on SHE, and are investigated, and managed accordingly.
