The team

The Regulatory Reform and Implementation (RRI) team manages many of ASIC's policy and law reform projects.

RRI pursues strategic initiatives that shape the regulatory framework to achieve ASIC's mandate and implements law reform initiatives. The team leads and delivers end to end process to effectively implement law reform projects, including operationalising law reform.  This includes both managing large law reform projects and supporting law reform projects being led by other teams. 

This team also supports the development and maintenance of ASIC's regulatory guidance and legislative instruments.

The role

As an Adviser/Lawyer you will be accountable for:

  • Contributing to regulatory policy projects and law reform in support of ASIC's strategic objectives, including by providing input to Treasury, regulatory reviews and other Government initiatives as required.
  • Collaboratively contributing to the implementation of law reforms, including operationalising law reform through training, systems, and processes.
  • Developing and interpreting policy and regulatory guidance.
  • Drafting written material, including briefings, regulatory publications, training material, papers for internal committees and speaking notes.
  • Analysing complex information and issues and making sound regulatory judgements.
  • Providing technical expertise, input and guidance on sector specific legal and regulatory issues, and law reform (as appropriate).
  • Liaising and consulting with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders in an impactful, engaging, and influential way.
  • Contributing to the identification of new methods to utilise data to deliver priorities, including effective collection, management, analysis and communication of insights from data.

Please note that roles are available at either ASIC4 or EL classification.

  • ASIC4 – from $87,259 + 15.4% superannuation: candidates with 3-5 years' relevant experience
  • EL1 – from $114,351 + 15.4% superannuation: candidates with minimum 5-6 years' relevant experience.

About you

  • A relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Demonstrated technical understanding of the Australian financial system and knowledge of ASIC's regulatory functions and environment.
  • Experience analysing complex information and issues, and making sound regulatory judgements.
  • Analytical, investigative and research skills, including data analysis and presentation.
  • Experience delivering results in a complex environment through a commitment to quality outcomes, managing risks, and the efficient use of resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply clear, accurate analysis and advice on relevant legislation, legal and policy issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and provide advice on practices, policy and projects relating to ASIC's regulatory environment.
  • Conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills as well as ability to draw inferences from qualitative and quantitative data and to reach robust and practical conclusions.
  • An understanding of the effective use of all available data and information opportunities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information to a range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision and take responsibility for outcomes.
