  • 3-Year Part-Time Contract with extension opportunities
  • Development and implementation of Caritas Fiji’s environmental and ecological justice responsibilities
  • Based in Fiji and may require travel within the country and overseas
We are seeking an Advocacy Coordinator who will be responsible for the development and implementation of Caritas Fiji’s advocacy and environmental and ecological justice responsibilities. You will carry out advocacy initiatives that support the strategic and programmatic work of the organisation. This position will work closely with Caritas Oceania.
 
About Caritas Australia
Caritas Australia is the Catholic agency for international humanitarian relief and development based in Australia and worked across the globe. Through relationships with the Churches, partners and communities in Africa, Asia, the Pacific and Australia, Caritas Australia helps to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
 
What does the role involve? 
This role will have you working for the mission of Caritas Fiji to build a socially and ecologically just Fijian society. You will work closely with Caritas Oceania and contribute to regional and global advocacy initiatives, which includes being an active member of relevant Caritas Oceania working groups and committees.
Key objectives will include (but not limited to):
  • Identify new funding opportunities, developing grant proposals and ensuring compliance with all agreement requirements
  • Coordinating community engagement, campaigning and research according to organisational strategy and project portfolio
  • Develop strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders which include communities, government, NGOs, Caritas member organisations and more
  • Represent Cartias Fiji on relevant Caritas Oceania working groups or tasks and contributing to collective Caritas Oceania priorities
This role is based in Fiji and may require travel to various communities within the country, or overseas to represent Caritas Oceania.
 
Who are we looking for? 
For the Advocacy Coordinator role, we are seeking a highly organised and dynamic individual, who is committed to making a difference in the world. The successful candidate will have a mix of the following qualifications, skills and experience:    
  • Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in international development, communications, advocacy, politics or similar work
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role, particularly in project design, implementation, monitoring and reporting
  • Knowledge in key advocacy issues such as Climate Change, Environmental Protection or Gender Equity
  • Commitment to uphold the Catholic Social Teachings
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in both English and Fijian
  • Strong cross-cultural skills and experience working with people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds
