Tableland Veterinary Service taking expressions of interest for school students to join our team as a KENNEL HAND.
The Kennel Hand position is a junior, entry level position that provides school students the opportunity to gain valuable experience working in a veterinary clinic. Typically, it is a pathway to either university studies in veterinary medicine, or a traineeship to become a veterinary nurse.
The role includes After School shifts from 3:30pm to 5:30pm helping clean, restock and maintain our hospital and consult areas, along with entry level cleaning tasks to keep our office and clinical areas running smoothly.
The role also includes Saturday morning shifts where there is more opportunity to be involved in caring for our hospital patients, including feeding and walking patients, cleaning cages and preparing medications.
The day to day role
Some of the tasks our Kennel Hands can be expected to undertake include:
- Emptying rubbish bins
- Restocking consult rooms
- Vacuuming, sweeping and mopping floors
- Santising consult room and hospital surfaces
- Helping to pack and wrap surgical kits
- Cleaning and santising cages
- Walking and feeding patients

Tableland Veterinary Service is a family owned group of mixed practice veterinary clinics across Far North Queensland. Our clinics are located in Malanda, Atherton and Ravenshoe on the Atherton Tableland, along with clinics in Charters Towers, Edmonton and Weipa. The position detals
- Casual position
- 1 – 2 afternoons per week, and 1 Saturday morning out of every 3 or 4 on a rotating cycle
- Pay range - $14 to $18 per hour, depending on age
- Workday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm (but paid for minimum shift of 2.5 hours)
- Saturday morning from 7:30am to 1:00pm
