Salary: $86,215 - $92,447 p.a. + 11% superannuation contribution

About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.
About the Opportunity
The Aftercare Worker will assist Cape York communities to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis by coordinating existing activities, offering support to services operating in community, and address service gaps. The Aftercare workforce will focus on coordinating the existing initiatives to enhance mental health support in Cape York.
Pre-employment screening for vaccination against Vaccine Preventable Diseases will be conducted for the successful applicant.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Qualifications in either Certificate IV ATSI Primary Health Care, Certificate IV in Community Services, Certificate IV in Indigenous Mental Health (Suicide Prevention), Certificate IV in Mental Health)
- Qualification in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid or a willingness to undertake.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a social community worker or similar role.
- Experience working with clients that have experienced suicidal ideation or present with self-harm behaviours, and their affected family members.
- Experience in working remote, independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment, prioritise and meet deadlines, deal with matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
- Experience in the development and delivery of education and health promotion activities.
- Well-developed written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to liaise with service providers.
- Ability to facilitate community and stakeholder consultations and interagency meetings.
- Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs
- Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence
