Provide afterschool care and homework assistance/tutoring:
• Hugo (15) has had several challenges. He is vision impaired (no sight in one eye and moderate vision in the other), has mild hearing loss, low muscle tone, and needs some extra support with fine motor tasks. As a result, Hugo needs structured support in the afternoons with his homework and afterschool activities
Able to work approx. from 2:00-6:30pm 5 days (and occasionally until 7pm) per week, with some additional hours on an ad hoc basis (always to be negotiated in advance):
• Collecting and looking after Hugo in the afternoons after school on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays; including taking him to after school activities and supporting homework/tutoring
• Some additional support – e.g., cooking meals and making sure they adhere to Hugo’s diet requirements
• If possible, also providing help in the school holidays (ideally 10am – 6:30pm four days a week – but always to be negotiated in advance)
• We have some flexibility about providing more or less work for the right candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who is:
• Experienced working with teens requiring special support in a structured, thoughtful and creative way
• Energetic, caring and enthusiastic and enjoys spending time with teens
• Experienced working with teens with disabilities and able to provide guidance and targeted assistance with homework (especially Yr. 9 maths, science, English and commerce); incl. reviewing homework and draft assignments to provide feedback, provide study planning and targeting tutoring
• Calm and consistent, but firm when needed
• Has a driver’s licence and is able to drive Hugo where needed in our (automatic) car or willing to take in their car
• Has a valid Working With Children check
• Is a non-smoker
This role can start immediately (includes some training/handover) and runs until 1 Dec.
