Illawarra Animal Rehabilitation (IAR) is a busy, and rapidly growing, Rehab clinic which is part of Illawarra Animal Hospital. Illawarra Animal Hospital has a special interest in orthopaedic surgery, so our rehab clinic has a high post orthopaedic-surgery rehab caseload as well as treating patients with arthritis, mobility issues, neurological conditions and sporting dogs.
Our service offerings include hydrotherapy through our underwater treadmill, laser, tens machine, acupuncture, massage and exercise therapy.
To be successful in this role you will have superior communication & client management skills, the ability to learn quickly, experience in time management & juggling a busy schedule, a strong team player and some who gets a thrill out of seeing our patients improve each week.
Prior experience in Rehab is preferred, however we are willing and ready to train an experienced Veterinary Nurse who is eager and ready to learn.
Patient Care
- Provide outstanding patient care - Undertake monitoring and treatment of post orthopaedic surgical patients with diligence, accuracy and care.
- Assist in the implementation of rehabilitation plans, including performing physical therapy exercises, hydrotherapy, laser therapy and other modalities.
- Monitor and document the animal’s response to rehab therapy and report progress and/or concerns to the rehabilitation veterinarian.
- Provide hands on care and support to animals during therapy sessions, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Restraining patients for examination and treatment
- Provides patient updates in a timely, detailed, accurate and professional manner to clients so they are well informed on the progress each patient is making.
- Cleans up the mess - Maintain the hospital to be clean and hygienic.
- Maintains high quality patient treatment notes on Vetlink and ensures that medications and stock items used are priced up on file at the time of use/administration. Bills must be up to date continuously
- Co-ordinating home care instructions, medications, follow-up appointments and discharge appointments for the client.
- Education the clients on home care exercises and techniques to support their pets rehabilitation and recovery.
- Follows through to complete tasks as directed by the Veterinarian- such as giving pain relief, specific medications, treatment modalities and feedback to the client based on the patients needs.
- Provide compassionate and empathetic support to pet owners throughout the rehabilitation process.
