OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To plan and co-ordinate, execute and monitor equipment and labour resources to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the cross dock and warehouse. This position requires a person with a high level of management and interpersonal skills, with the ability and willingness to co-operate with peers. An exceptional knowledge of relevant road legislation and equipment is also essential for this role. It requires an alert, business-oriented person who is able to maximise opportunities through timely decision making, awareness of cost control, innovative thinking and preparedness to handle all tasks in a conscientious manner.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the selection of appropriate equipment and load allocation to maximise use of local equipment.
In conjunction with Fleet Controller on Friday / Monday maximise utilisation of vehicles and to the safe and secure methods of accomplishing loading in an efficient and effective manner.
Ensure that all vehicles are promptly loaded or unloaded on arrival at cross dock and warehouse.
All designated vehicles to be loaded and despatched within agreed timeframes.
Update information as required and maintain all internal spreadsheets for weekly KPI analysis.
Complete container placement plans to ensure that correct containers are placed at appropriate doors in order of priority and that cross dock area is not congested.
Ensure that door straps are used on all containers to be unloaded.
Ensure that additional PPE is used for containers / trailers that contain DG’s as per Operating Procedure requirement.
Ensure that all units deconsolidated are thoroughly checked against the manifest with any discrepancies reported through the CSR system.
Ensure that any units that are poorly stowed with the potential to cause injury are reported as an incident with photographs attached. Abort any unloading or loading that is deemed high risk. Review options with staff / elevate issues as required.
Ensure safe deconsolidation and consolidation of units occur as per agreed procedures.
Constantly review load and unload process to establish best practise for safety and effeciencies.
Ensure that freight is allocated / placed in correct cross dock lanes.
Ensure freight despatch occurs in order of priority and due by dates.
Ensure all operators follow safety rules and procedures.
Ensure that drivers of comply with parking position in breezeway and advise load detail prior to arrival at depot.
Maintain a high standard of house keeping at all times.
Liaise with site supervisors to ensure best use of the labour and equipment pool.
Have a full understanding of and ensure compliance to legislative safe working practices, Toll policies and procedures.
Monitor and ensure all operators work within the legislated work hours (Standard or Basic Fatigue Management)
Perform random spot checks to ensure that all company operators and contractors utilised have current licenses ( Forklift and Vehicle )
Complete delivery manifests as required.
Ensure that operators are vigilant checking load restraint on all freight handled – on receipt for unloading or despatch for loading ( Operators are those people involved in the freight handling or pick up / delivery process : fork lift drivers and drivers )
Immediately notify Manager of any injuries, or incidents defined by Toll Corporate as a Significant Safety Incident (SSI)
Assist or as directed, conduct Prestart - Tool box meetings.
Ensure that container fork lift operators observe agreed yard and rail container stacking and storage plan. Revise as necessary in conjunction with Warehouse Manager.
Ensure that operators observe agreed cross dock and warehouse plan. Revise as necessary in conjunction with Warehouse Manager.
Ensure that safety controls are strictly observed for DVR and Tag Out processes.
Enter all incidents, hazard, and safety cons into Trac this includes vehicle spot checks and audits as per the KPI
