Collectively we make the impossible possible.Recognised for delivering projects of global and national significance that help keep Australia safe, it is our shared passion that shapes our culture, and our people that make it a great place to work.About the OPPORTUNITYWe have a great opportunity for an Aircraft Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Engineer to join our Aerospace engineering team based at NSW-RAAF Base Williamtown, reporting to the Project Engineering Manager.We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.You will work with other members of the project engineering and maintenance team to assess the suitability of changes to Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and other customised off-aircraft tooling. The Aircraft GSE Engineer will manage and undertake the necessary engineering clearance activities for GSE that is new, alternate or modified.Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducting review of technical information and consultation with the appropriate subject matter experts or assessment of suitability of any changes to GSE on Safety, Airworthiness or aircraft mission capability.
  • Performing professional engineering assessment using relevant WHS standards, BAE Systems product safety processes and the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations.
  • Leadership and coordination of the engineering activities required for the design, research, development, incorporation, integration and testing of all GSE.
  • Applying the relevant project engineering change management process
  • Development of test programs to support commissioning of the associated GSE
  • Applying Risk assessments and definition of risk mitigation controls to achieve satisfactory levels of risk So Far as is Reasonably Practical (SFAIRP)
About YOU
  • Demonstrated experience within engineering discipline with working experience in the technical development and systems design of engineering projects and products
  • Experience working within GSE engineering framework and product safety principles
  • Experience with Australian Standards, Codes of Practice and WHS.
  • Good understanding of Systems Engineering practices.
  • Good understanding for Product Safety, ability to interpret Product Safety principles, WHS Act 2011, Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASR), Codes of Practice, and Australian and International Standards in order to identify hazards, estimate risks and define mitigation controls SFAIRP
  • Knowledge of safety risk management techniques and application to approval of new and/or changes to GSE
  • Familiarity with Reliability and Maintenance practices relevant to GSE
  • Bachelor Engineering Degree or equivalent
