About the Role

The Odyssey Barwon is a consortium that works across Barwon and Colac Otway regions; made up of Odyssey, BCYF and Windana. The partnership provides locally integrated, person centred, and evidence based treatment to those whose lives have been affected by Alcohol and other Drugs. The vision is to be the leading provider of quality, innovative and high impact services for clients with complex needs at the intersection of the addiction, disability, mental health, unemployment and justice sectors.

This role aims to deliver flexible, innovative and early response to parents to meet and overcome the barriers that may be in place to meet the conditions of their Reunification Orders within a care team environment. The AOD Family Reunification Clinician is responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments, person-centred planning, care and coordination outreach support and providing a range of counselling interventions to assist parents to change harmful behaviours resulting from problematic Alcohol and other drug use which represent a risk to children. 

The key objectives of this role are:

  • Provide high quality engagement, assessment, treatment and support services to individuals and their families through evidence based, therapeutic counselling and group work.
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments, developing treatment plans and providing effective counselling interventions as well as assertive referrals to meet the individual needs of clients and their families, including those with complex needs.
  • Provide information, education and practical assistance to clients to help people to reduce the harms of substance use.
  • Considering the needs of, and identifying any risks to vulnerable children, working with families to develop safety plans and facilitating referrals to partner Child First and Family service agents when indicated.
  • Providing back up support to the Triage function when required.
  • Coordinating with Care and Recovery Coordination, Clinical Review and other processes to support seamless transitions between service types and a consistent approach to supporting the achievement of clients’ recovery goals.

About You

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Relevant health and or welfare Tertiary Qualification such as Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, AOD or other relevant area of study desirable • Certificate IV in AOD or completion of the core competencies (or able to complete within the first 12 months of employment).
  • Experience in the provision of assessment and counselling services preferably with AOD or dual diagnosis clients.
  • Demonstrated understanding of family systems approached interventions for reducing Alcohol and drug related harm, and the ability to apply a range of therapeutic approaches
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, families, colleagues, stakeholders and other service providers.
  • Proven skills in the application of assessment, case coordination, case management, case formulation and the development of individual/family inclusive treatment plans.
  • Proven ability to work with a range of people (including specific client groups such as Aboriginal, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Forensic clients) and families experiencing problematic AOD use, in a non-judgmental and respectful manner.
