Part-time opportunity available for an Allied Health Assistant to join our Social Work Department!

About Central Gippsland Health

Central Gippsland Health (CGH) is a sub-regional health service and the primary provider of health and aged care services in the Wellington Shire. Located in the City of Sale, 215 km east of Melbourne, it serves as an ideal gateway to the stunning Gippsland Lakes, 90 Mile Beach, and the Victorian Alps.

CGH offers comprehensive acute care through an integrated service delivery model across Wellington Shire and beyond. It operates beds across three campuses: Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield. Services include a full-time emergency department, critical care unit, neonatal critical care unit, three operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services, general medical services, and sub-acute services such as rehabilitation.

CGH is also a prominent teaching hospital, affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health, providing placements and clinical experience for students.

About the Department

The CGH Allied Health Department comprises approximately 60 professionals in Physiotherapy/Exercise Physiology, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Podiatry, and Social Work. Last year, we provided therapy to over 6,500 clients in community and outpatient settings, averaging 500 referrals across Allied Health disciplines per month.

About the Role

The Allied Health Assistant will work within the Social Work Department, performing tasks such as:

  • Participating in information gathering to assist in assessments, including administering screening tools under an Allied Health Professional's guidance.
  • Assisting in the provision of written resources as directed by a Social Worker.
  • Facilitating and assisting with therapeutic groups and educational programs.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of therapy care plans and providing feedback to the treating health professional.
  • Conducting home visits to monitor and support the safety of therapy plans established by the supervising Allied Health Professional.
  • Working with clients, families, and carers to execute functional and therapy activities as outlined in care plans.
  • Supporting clients' access to services and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to ensure integrated, person-centered care for timely and effective client discharge.
  • Networking and collaborating with other service providers.
  • Advocating for patients, clients, and their families, including assisting in navigating the healthcare system.
  • Participating in resource development.
  • Supporting Allied Health students, work experience students, and Allied Health Assistant trainees.
  • Preparing and conducting audits under the direction of a Social Worker.

Duties

  • Liaise, network, and collaborate with other service providers.
  • Advocate for patients, clients, their families, and carers, including assisting them in navigating the healthcare system.
  • Participate in resource development.
  • Support Allied Health students, work experience students, and Allied Health Assistant trainees.
  • Prepare and conduct audits under the direction of a Social Worker.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  1. Certificate III or IV in Allied Health Assistance (Generic) or equivalent.
  2. Current driver's license, with proof required before commencing duties.
