Job description

Join the ANAO Graduate Program and see what other grads don’t in 2025

  • get a bird’s eye view of how government works, researching and reviewing a wide range of government programs, expenditure and departments — an experience you can’t get anywhere else
  • have impact on government, keeping Australian Government agencies accountable for their use of public resources and promoting meaningful change
  • work in an agency that reports directly to Parliament, and see your work published and tabled in Parliament.
  • learn from the best, with exposure and access to senior leadership at the ANAO (including the Auditor-General), as well as at the agencies we audit.

Applications for our 2025 Graduate Program close 11:30pm, (AEST) Monday 29 April 2024. Don’t miss out!

Accounting and finance students: see what other grads don’t, using your degree in a place where profit isn’t the driver

Do meaningful and rewarding work across the entire Australian Government sector, keeping public sector expenditure transparent and accountable to the Australian Parliament. Learn and grow as an accountant as you engage with our unique and diverse client base of 250+ government agencies.

Data science and information science students: see what other grads don’t, using your in-depth knowledge of data analytics and modelling to help shape audit conclusions and assist the Parliament in understanding audit findings

Work with and be mentored by highly-skilled data professionals as you help us examine the big public issues of the day — across the entire Australian Government sector — using innovative technology to investigate complex data sets and develop scripts, visualisations and pipelines to answer audit-related questions.

Arts, humanities, science and business degree students: see what other grads don’t, investigating the performance and program implementation of government agencies using evidence-based analysis

Support public sector transparency and integrity by using your strong generalist skills to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, economics and ethics of different government programs. Different audit topics call for different specialist knowledge, which means that whatever your degree, you’ll have relevant expertise. Each new audit is like a research project, which comes with the opportunity to learn new things, develop new skills and work with all kinds of people.

What you’ll get out of your Graduate Program

  • generous conditions, including a starting salary of $70,621* plus 15.4% super (*pending commencement of the ANAO Enterprise Agreement 2024–2027)
  • engaging, interesting work that supports accountability and integrity in government
  • complete an extensive development program through the ANAO Academy that will teach you core public service skills and help you further develop technical skills in your field.
  • access to a suite of wellbeing initiatives, flexible working arrangements and a positive culture of work-life balance
  • kickstart your public service career, getting a strong sense of how government agencies work and the importance of the ANAO’s role in the sector
  • work at a welcoming office with a positive culture of work-life balance and a suite of health, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and
  • promotion to a higher classification at the completion of the program

Who can apply

To be eligible to apply, you must have completed your university degree within the last seven years or be in your final year of study.
