About the Role The Animal Attendant-Equine role at the Equine Lameness and Imaging Centre offers a unique opportunity to support the operation and provision of services within the University of Melbourne's Werribee campus.This position offers a unique chance for personal and professional growth, with continuous learning opportunities and the guidance of experienced senior technical staff and veterinarians.Don't let this exhilarating opportunity pass you by!Whether you're seeking full-time immersion or a balanced part-time commitment, we're open to considering all options for this role. Please note, regardless of the working days, our operational hours span from 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM our open hours are 9-5pm but ideally this role would be 8-4:15pmYour responsibilities will include:
  • Assist with the care and husbandry of all patients within the Equine Centre
  • Maintain highest standards of cleanliness and order in all areas utilised by the Equine Centre.
  • Ensure that proper care and maintenance is maintained for all equipment and vehicles used.
  • Assist in maintaining a full inventory of all barn activities and associated stock.
  • Handle patients during various procedures for students and staff.
  • Assist in demonstrating techniques in animal handling for the care, welfare, transport, and movement of horses to junior staff and undergraduate veterinary students.
Who We Are Looking For You will demonstrate a genuine passion for horses, experience handling horses and exhibit professionalism, enthusiasm, initiative, and a proactive attitude toward learning new skills and tasks.You will also have:
  • Demonstrated knowledge coupled with practical skills of horse husbandry, management and handling, including some barn management.
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised, able to show initiative and excellent work ethics.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Proven organisational skills and the ability to work to priorities.
  • Good written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to accurately convey information, and the ability to work with all levels of staff and students.
