DESCRIPTIONAmazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communications Manager for International Strategic Communications and Media Relations, with a specific focus on Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ).The candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communications strategies to manage and communicate AWS's stance on global issues at an international scale. This role requires a deep understanding of the APJ media landscape, strong communications skills, an in-depth understanding of global reputation trends, and the ability to navigate complex topic areas, from generative AI to sustainability.The successful candidate will work closely with a variety of internal teams and external stakeholders including media to help shape the organisation's narrative, mitigate reputation risk, and promote its objectives at a global scale.The role, based in Sydney, will require being in the office for a minimum of three days a week, will require travel, and will report to AWS's International Policy & Issues Lead.Amazon offers employees a competitive remuneration package, including participation in the company stock plan as applicable.   • Develop and implement comprehensive reactive and proactive reputation strategies, aligning them with the organisation's objectives.
  • Monitor hyperlocal, regional, and global trends, news and events to identify potential risks and opportunities related to issues affecting the organisation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with APJ media and influencers to effectively convey the organisation's messages and initiatives. Demonstrable experience working with media across APJ is essential.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses and coordinating interviews or statements from the relevant spokespeople.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, communications, and government affairs, to ensure alignment in addressing issues and identifying opportunities.
  • Proactively identify and prepare for potential reputational risks related to international issues, developing crisis communications plans and managing media responses effectively.
  • Provide ongoing strategic guidance to senior management on APJ issues.
  • Ensure processes to monitor and analyse media coverage related to APJ issues, tracking key metrics and providing reports where required to evaluate effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant senior internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop engaging content, such as articles, blog posts, and social media updates, to communicate the organisation's perspectives on international issues effectively.
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:Sydney, NSW, AUSBASIC QUALIFICATIONS- 7+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related fieldPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Proven experience in public relations, crisis management, international affairs at a global organisation or agency.
- A strong understanding of international politics, geopolitical dynamics, and global issues.
- A strategic thinker and problem-solver with high judgement and the ability to make quick decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; can tailor messages for different audiences and cultures.
- Exceptional media relations skills and experience interacting with senior journalists at a global level.
- Demonstrable ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Acknowledgement of country:
