We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Sail Making Apprentice. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn from experienced professionals and develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a skilled Sail Maker in the sailing industry.
As an apprentice, you will assist in the creation and repair of high-quality sails for various sailing vessels. You will learn all aspects of sailmaking, including measuring, cutting, sewing, and finishing sails. You will also learn about different materials used in sail making, their properties, and how they affect sail performance.

As a Sail Maker apprentice, you can expect to perform a variety of tasks related to sail making and repair. Some of your daily duties may include:
- Measure and cut sailcloth to the appropriate dimensions.
- Assist with sail repairs, such as adding reinforcements, grommets and other hardware.
- Assist experienced sailmakers in the creation of high-quality sails for various types of sailing vessels.
- Assist with sail repairs, which may include patching holes, replacing damaged sections, and restitching seams.
- Keeping the work area clean and organised.
- Learn about different types of sail materials and how they impact sail performance.
- Communicate with team members to ensure deadlines are met and customer requirements are fulfilled.
- Any other tasks requested by the host employer
As you progress through your apprenticeship, you can expect to take on more responsibilities and gain a deeper understanding of the sail making process. Your daily duties will vary based on the projects you are working on and the needs of your team, but you can expect to have a hands-on role in creating high-quality sails that will help sailors enjoy the sport of sailing.
Applicants will ideally meet the following criteria:
- Strong interest in sailing and willingness to learn
- Attention to detail
- Hold a current Drivers License and have own reliable transport
- Work Experience within the industry is highly desirable
- Must be physically fit
- Be self-disciplined with problem solving capabilities
- Be reliable, resilient, motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to take direction
- Have a positive attitude
- Take the safety of yourself and your team members seriously
Your remuneration package includes:
- Award wages (paid fortnightly) + Super + Holiday Leave Loading + Allowances
