With a diverse scope of work focused in primarily commercial refrigeration, our apprentices are exposed to advanced technical learning opportunities and supported in learning to establish a rewarding life long profession.
What would I be doing as a new Refrigeration and HVAC apprentice or 3rd year apprentice?
Learning the all the aspects that make up how machines heat and cool via mechanical, refrigerant gases, electrical and plumbing components.
With a combination of hands on, on-the-job learning with a tradesperson and TAFE attendance you will develop a skills set to,
Service, repair and install all types of Refrigeration and HVAC equipment
Are you the right type of person for a refrigeration/HVAC apprenticeship?
Some things to consider
This is a commercial refrigeration apprenticeship that requires a Mature Age person with experience in previous employment positions that demonstrate technical inclination.
HVAC-R is a well paid professional career however it comes with responsibilities you need to consider for your development in the long term,
What does that mean?
It means we will require you to undertake a technical, hands on tests to establish what technical knowledge you have.
For example, do you know how your car works, or, in the case of a 2nd /3rd year HVAC-R apprentice what you have learnt from the trade so far.
As a newbie you will be asked to walk us through what you know about your technical things you may have repaired yourself i.e. your car and if you can repair it yourself.
You will be asked to assemble a display board in a reasonable time frame as you require an aptitude for hand tools to be successful at this job.
An Engineering background would be of advantage, do you know the basics of heating and cooling and how refrigerant works?
Also, if you've read this far,
The position requires fitness, you are running up and down ladders with heavy tools and refrigerant cylinders. Safe lifting is part of the every day job, did we mention in the hot sun, on a roof?
As a lifestyle choice over the longer term take into consideration that the industry is 24/7 with after hours call outs and summer is not holiday time for refrigeration engineers.
Who do we believe would make the most professionally suited Refrigeration and HVAC engineer?
An energetic, hands- on mechanical engineering loving 2/3rd year apprenticeship in HVAC +R for a person that would like to establish an elevated professional career in mainly refrigeration, or,
Someone who has enjoyed a mechanical trade position in the past and is seeking to develop their technical abilities, or,
A person who is extremely curious about mechanical, technical and electronic machinery works and would like to repair this equipment.
2 /3 Year apprentices we recognise that you may not have been exposed to much refrigeration with your current employer and will work with you to fill in the gaps in this area.
