As an Apprenticeship Support Officer, you will provide tailored mentoring, support and guidance to First Nations apprentices/trainees and employers to complete their apprenticeship or traineeship, ensuring their success. This role will work across Queensland. 

In this role, you will provide mentoring services at various stages of the apprenticeship journey, including mentorship, pastoral care, facilitating peer-to-peer mentoring, providing referral information and guidance. This role will involve:

  • Providing mentoring and personal support services tailored to the needs of individual First Nations Apprentices and their employers.
  • Proactively engaging and developing trusted professional relationships with apprentices and employers offering individualised support by maintaining contact via telephone, SMS, email, skype, or face to face.
  • Creating a personalised Tailored Support Plan for each apprentice and employers, respecting their lived experiences and their family/kinship connections.
  • Providing early intervention, customised strategic support, and case management services to First Nations Apprentices.
  • Support employers to improve employment practices, foster and enhance cultural competency and safe working environment to successfully support First Nations apprentices.
  • Hosting meetings or mediation with employers and apprentices to achieve positive outcomes.

About You

As someone who enjoys working autonomously within a broader team environment, you will be passionate about mentoring and supporting the next generation of skilled apprentices to achieve quality outcomes. You will be outcomes focused, successfully building and sustaining relationships to provide effective individualised support. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Previous experience working effectively with First Nations clients of all ages, including those with high level and complex needs.
  • Lived experience and/or established networks with First Nations communities, organisations, or employers.
  • Previous experience or background in mentoring or coaching and community development.
  • Proficiency in leading, influencing and motivating diverse individuals and/or employers using a coaching and advisory approach to achieve quality apprentice outcomes.
  • Strong engagement skills and the ability to interact effectively influence and motivate apprentices and/or employers.
  • Time management, organisational skills, and the ability to plan and prioritise to achieve outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, including negotiation, mediation and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of local labour market conditions, industries, and opportunities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Australian Apprenticeship Services and Government Employment Services, RTOs, and Group Training Organisations.

For this role, you will need to:

  • Complete a Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
  • Have possession of a current valid Driver’s License, willingness to drive, and your own registered vehicle with a 4–5-star ANCAP safety rating.
  • Be eligible to work in Australia.
