The Role
Joint Proof & Experimental Unit (JPEU) is an integral part of Explosive Ordnance Branch, Joint Logistics Command and is tasked to provide dynamic, static and environmental test and evaluation services to the Australian Defence Organisation. JPEU consists of a Headquarters at Port Wakefield SA, and two Ranges, Proof and Experimental Establishment (P&EE) Graytown VIC, and P&EE Port Wakefield SA.
We are seeking a candidate to take on the role of an Explosives Ordnance Technician – Plant Operations to provide site preparation and remediation in support of explosives ordnance test and evaluation activities, utilising heavy vehicles and plant equipment.
The successful applicant will have qualifications and experience in the operation of a range of light, medium and heavy vehicles and high-risk plant equipment including cranes, excavators, rollers and front-end loaders.
Note: Employment at Graytown attracts a Special Defence Locality Allowance of approximately $152.00 per fortnight or $3952.00 per annum.
About our Team
P&EE Graytown teams carryout Test and Evaluation activities for a diverse range of various calibre munitions and other explosive ordnance. They capture performance data of the munitions and provide that information on behalf of Defence.
The Range Services Team is critical in this process as they provide the necessary resources for the conduct of test and evaluation across numerous activities by static weapon mounted munitions, mobile weapon platforms evaluation and ballistic protections trials. The broader team utilise systems such as ballistic tracking radar, high speed video cameras and associated equipment to track the rounds or event when the explosive ordnance is dynamically fired or statically tested the munitions.
The successful candidate will be able to work with other stakeholders (Explosive Ordnance Services, Data Acquisitions Section, Instrumentation Section and Mechanical Workshops) and provide the hands-on support required to for the conduct of Test and Evaluation activities.

The successful candidate will be able to use a wide range of tools to aid in carrying out their work such as Microsoft tools and other IT systems.
As well as be able to:
Work in an open field environment and administration area environment.
Support the team in the construction of test and evaluation sites.
Participate in the manning of bushfire response and emergency response teams.
Work under supervision or independently to ensure ‘Best Outcomes for Defence’ are provided as required.
Work within a Quality Management System and able to comply with Work Health Safety Act, Regulations and Australian Standards.
The successful candidate will also have good written communication skills and be able to interpret and comply with written instructions. They will be proactive and keen to continuously improve systems and processes.
