Land Command, Control, Communications & Computer Systems (LC4S) Branch (LC4SB) is seeking highly motivated and skilled Engineers who are able to work independently and autonomously. They will display both initiative and judgement, enabling the interpretation of policy and the application of practices and procedures.
As an Engineering Professional, you will provide detailed engineering technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development. In doing so, you will have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision making and Defence's mission and policy requirements. You will be responsible for exercising assigned engineering authorities within the Land Worthiness framework.
The right person for this role will show the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the Defence environment and the agility to realign resourcing to meet emerging demands. Successful applications will provide support and guidance to your team to ensure they are sensitive to Defence strategic direction and equipped to excel in their capabilities.
These positions require stakeholder engagement (including industry) and therefore successful candidates will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
We are seeking candidates with a diverse range of experience and backgrounds in engineering, including people who have gained their experience outside Defence and Government.
LC4SB is seeking Configuration Management professionals for the following roles:
LC4 Acquisition SPO - APS 6 - Land 200 Phase 3 Battle Management System Software Engineer (Defence Plaza Melbourne – VIC; or Russell - ACT):
The successful candidate will work within the Land 200 Phase 3 Project Team seeking to incrementally deliver a new Battle Management System to the land and integrated joint force, address capability deficiencies and improve interoperability with Partner nations. Working within the Technical Regulatory Framework - Land (TRF-L). They will provide specialist Software Engineering and software integration Subject Matter Expertise during Engineering Planning, Stakeholder Engagement, Requirements Refinement, and Delivery of this Project.
These positions may be required to access US export controlled materiel and therefore applicants will be requested to disclose any dual citizenship with another country during the recruitment process. Dual citizens may be subject to further assessment and appointment to these positions will be conditional upon approval to access US controlled export material be in accordance with the United States Arms Export Control Act.
The additional payment is a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP) which enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA) to some or all of the jobs within a critical occupation(s) or discipline within a workplace.
Applicants engaged into a BDCP position must consider the following. BDCPs provide remuneration in addition to the Defence Enterprise Agreement (EA). This arrangement is subject to meeting eligibility criteria and is subject to annual review. Should your performance fall beyond requirements or the eligibility criteria not be met, your eligibility for the BDCP may be reviewed and ceased. It may also be ceased should you change positions or the requirement for the BDCP is no longer necessary, as determined by Defence. Should the BDCP be ceased you will be advised and your BDCP additional payment will cease.

Our Ideal Candidate
Land Command, Control, Communications & Computer Systems (LC4S) Branch is seeking applicants who are able to demonstrate initiative and the ability to apply established engineering principles, techniques and methods to solve problems relating to the sustainment, design, development, integration and evaluation of military equipment or other complex military systems in one of the following engineering specialisations: systems, software, electronics, mechatronic, or communications engineering.
The Joint System Division within CASG is a complex enterprise with a heavy dependence on information technology and its personnel. The candidate for this role would possess:
  • A demonstrated track record working within engineering projects using appropriate engineering practices and processes, preferably in software intensive projects.
  • A thorough understanding of the relevant engineering disciplines, associated lifecycle models, and their application in a technical regulatory framework.
  • Demonstrated focus on timely resolution of issues in order to achieve a program outcome.
  • High Level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to negotiate and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • A team player who values team work and performs well in a diverse and integrated environment.
