The Role

Accountable for managing Systems Engineering across the capability lifecycle in support of Air Force's Live and Synthetic Advanced Test and Training Environment (ATTE) under broad direction.
Manage a small team delivering ATTE Systems Engineering (Live) function.
Exercise delegated Engineering Authority for engineering design and maintenance functions for capability acquisition and sustainment.
Apply engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties and consider these in planning, decision-making and priority setting.
Identify capability need, analyse deficiencies and develop system requirements.
Contribute to commissioning, integration, test & evaluation, authority to operate, accreditation, configuration management and performance analysis.
Produce asset condition reports and engage with sustainment agency for corrective actions.
Provide technical support to programs for outsourced engineering and maintenance functions.
Provide technical advice for design and interpretation of standards and engineering related policy.
Work collaboratively with stakeholders and subject matter experts to solve challenges of engineering risk, safety and quality across the ATTE operating space.
Contribute to the review of engineering, maintenance, test and project plans to ensure alignment to Commonwealth requirements.

About our Team

ATTE provides a safe, secure and controlled Live and Synthetic test and training environments in support of Whole-of-Government directed activities, testing of war material and Raise Train Sustain activities to support Force Generation for the Australian Defence Force, our allies and foreign partners.
The ATTE Systems Engineering team works directly with Live and Synthetic service delivery teams to ensure systems and facilities support the delivery of representative test and training environments. The Manager ATTE Systems Engineering (Live) will lead Live Systems Engineering and report to the Deputy Director of ATTE Engineering.
ATTE is located at RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia and offers access to flexible working conditions to support work life balance and an attractive remuneration package including a generous superannuation contribution of 15.4%. Defence provides relocation assistance to eligible APS employees required to relocate. The level of assistance will vary depending on the reason for relocating and your personal circumstances.

Our Ideal Candidate

Have knowledge and expertise in all aspects of Systems Engineering from requirements gathering to operational test and evaluation.
Perform complex engineering activities and tasks under limited direction.
Be accountable for exercising assigned engineering authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations.
Research, apply and contribute to the development of technical engineering reports, briefs, presentations and documentation for review.
Apply technical engineering knowledge and experience to understand priorities and issues and implement corrective actions.
Build and sustain relationships with team members and actively participate in teamwork and group activities.
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders via reports, written correspondence, discussions and presentations.
Be quick and resourceful in learning about the extant systems and developing domain knowledge that will enable in understanding issues and providing solutions.
Assess technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing and provide recommendations for consideration.
Ensure delivered materiel system meets legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
Ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into engineering activities and tasks.
