As the Regimental Aviation Safety Officer for 20th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, you support flying operations of the Regiment by being responsible for the day-to-day management of the Defence Aviation Safety Management System as applied to the operation of military Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS).
You will be advising, monitoring, responding, recording and reporting direct to the Commanding Officer with regard to the safe operation of UAS and compliance with the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations.
As the Commanding Officer’s Aviation Safety subject matter expert, you will co-ordinate Aviation Safety Reporting/Investigations, provide the necessary technical support to members of the Regiment, and be the liaison with external aviation stakeholders.
Your duties will include provision of primary input and output to weekly Safety and Standards meetings, quarterly combined WHS/Aviation Committee meetings and external organisation meetings. You will facilitate analysis of workplace “Snapshot” surveys and as well as quarterly scoring/reporting of Key Performance Indicators.
Your analysis and advice of Aviation matters will aid to assure the Commanding Officer that the Regiment complies with regulations, policy and guidelines.

The Regiment provides flexible and responsive options to support force generation, operational tasking, contingencies and other opportunities such as aid to the civil community.
Our people are highly proficient, well-led, valued, and proud to serve in the Regiment. The Regiment consists of a Headquarters, Operations Support Battery, two UAV Batteries and a Combat Services Support Battery. The UAV Batteries operate Shadow 200 UAS and can form and lead teams with other elements of the Army to fulfil a wide range of tasks as required.20 Regiment is ‘ready now and ‘future ready’.
Our Ideal Candidate
As the ideal candidate you will come from an Aviation Safety environment and have a reputation for being self-motivated, academically qualified, industrious and able to work with minimal supervision.
You will have knowledge and skills gained through experience in workplace safety at a supervisory level. You will be a good communicator, able to instruct and lead by example in a multi-skilled, integrated work environment. A Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety, a Diploma of Leadership & Management and a Diploma in Quality Auditing are desirable, with potential further tertiary qualifications in Aviation Management and Training.
