Job description

Our preference is for candidates to be located in Canberra where possible, however we want to recruit the best people to our Group, no matter where you are located. Having regard to operational needs, we support flexible work arrangements including the opportunity to work remotely from one of our other departmental offices or remotely via home based work where suitable.
Should the successful candidate reside in a location where the department does not currently have an office footprint, there will be a requirement to be engaged remotely via a home based work arrangement.
The opportunities we have available
The Office for the Arts is a division of the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts and is responsible for administering and implementing the Australian Government's National Cultural Policy Revive. This includes leading the Department's engagement on arts and culture and provides high quality strategic advice to the Minister on creative sector policy and program issues. The Division also administers programs that support Australia's creative sector and stimulate participation in Australia's cultural life; and foster employment and growth across the creative sectors.
The Creative Industries Branch is responsible for a range of programs and policies that support the Arts sector. This includes support to the music, literature and the visual arts. The Creative Industries Branch is also responsible for ArtBank.
The Literature Team is responsible for a range of policy and programs that support the growth and development of Australian literature, and manages the Public and Educational Lending Right Schemes (the Schemes). The Schemes are iconic book sector support programs which make payments to Australian writers and publishers as recompense for the free-multiple-use of their books in public and educational lending libraries.
There are opportunities in the Section at the APS 4 and APS 5 levels to work on modernisation and implementation of the Schemes, and to contribute to the policy and program work undertaken in the Section. The roles are suited to people with experience in systems in a library or other information management context.
The key activities for this position are:
  • Being part of a team with responsibility for delivery of program administration, policy and research
  • Contributing to the delivery of funding through the Lending Right schemes
  • Liaising internally across the Office for the Arts and externally with stakeholders
  • Working as part of a broader collaborative team, sharing information and supporting each other to meet deadlines with high quality outcomes.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Have good attention to detail and accuracy that will be applied to processing and assessing lending right claims;
  • Be capable of preparing written communication for different audiences;
  • Have customer service experience and the ability to engage verbally with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Demonstrate flexibility and an ability to work with a level of independence under general direction;
  • Exhibit behaviours that contribute to teamwork and focus on customer service; and ideally
  • Have experience with Microsoft Excel and databases.
