About the role:
 
The Family Liaison Officer (FLO) provides a Family Liaison service for THE Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS). The FLO Sale position is a critical enabler towards Defence capability in terms of accessibility and the delivery of DFMS services and programs. It directly supports strengthening Defence families and linking Defence and the local community.

The FLO will have extensive knowledge of the local community and region and will provide first and soft touch point of contact for Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families, before and/or during posting. This role is pivotal in engagement, planning and delivery of Community Capacity Building and community engagement events and activities.

The FLO will assist DMFS Sale to increase ADF Members and their family’s resilience and strengthen community connections. The FLO would attain this through information dissemination, and social and community development activities, thereby increasing ADF Members’ ability to meet operational requirements.

The FLO provides a full range of administrative tasks, maintains reception operations and customer relationship management, and provides specific Area Office business support services. The FLO develops and engages in Family Liaison and community capacity building, to increase resilience and support network for ADF families to manage the service lifestyle.
 

Family Liaison Officers provide community-based information, support and assistance to individual members, partners, families and Defence-sponsored community groups. Our Family Liaison Officers:

 

  • Help Defence families engage with their communities and manage the military way of life
  • Are great at organising events and activities to support Defence families.
  • Develop strong community links between the wider Australian Community, Defence families and the Defence organisation.
  • Perform straightforward tasks that support the delivery of procedural, operational, administrative and business support activities across Defence.
  • Respond to straightforward operational, procedural, administrative and business support enquiries and maintain accurate records and files in accordance with relevant Defence work practices, procedures and policies.
  • Acquire and apply the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to provide advice and services for a range of straightforward operational, procedural, administrative and business support activities.
  • Clarify and apply an understanding of Defence’s corporate requirements including relevant legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures necessary to achieve work area outcomes.
  • Build and sustain relationships with team members, stakeholders and actively participate in team work and group activities.
  • Listen to internal and external stakeholders and respond under limited direction to change in stakeholder expectations to achieve outcomes.
  • Collect and consolidate data and information and provide assistance in the preparation of written submissions, reports and other correspondence for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Select the appropriate course of action to progress work to meet business objectives, seek advice and guidance on more complex issues.
  • Understand the operational, technical and resources requirements of a task and assist in the coordination, delivery and reporting of that task
 

MANDATORY

  • Experience working in a similar role under Australian rules and regulations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and proficiency in the use of IT systems including Microsoft Office
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong administration / coordination support experience
  • Very strong calendar management and coordination skills
  • Organisation and time management
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Current Police Check, o ability to obtain one
  • Baseline Security Clearance or ability to obtain
