APS5 Ministerial and Parliamentary Officer

  • $55.24 per hour + super
  • Canberra, Deakin - Brand New Office
  • 12-month contract
  • Hybrid with Flexible Work Arrangements
The Organisation
This Government body works with people with disability, providers, and the community to deliver nationally consistent, responsive, and effective regulation of service providers. They seek to uphold the rights of, and promote the health, safety, and wellbeing of people with disability receiving supports or services.
About the role
The APS5 Ministerial and Parliamentary Officer will be responsible for ensuring that ministerial documents prepared by the Agency are fit-for-purpose, meet the content requirements of the task and are aligned with ministerial style and preferences.
The role will have a considerable level of contact with internal and external stakeholders and will be required to communicate with and provide advice on a range of matters to resolve moderately complex to complex enquiries.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Proofing and editing ministerial correspondence, submissions, and briefs.
  • Monitoring, collating, reporting, and communicating feedback.
  • Coordinating Community of Practices to build capability and internal stakeholder confidence.
  • Coordinating and drafting input from across the Agency to develop reports.
  • Coordinating, drafting and quality checking Briefs, Ministerial Correspondence, Questions on Notice and Senate Briefs using the Parliamentary Document Management System (PDMS).
  • Contributing to the branch's corporate work program, reporting requirements and assist deliver branch governance obligations.

Key skills required for role
  • Possess the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of ICT systems and familiarise yourself with new concepts and technologies to deliver high level support.
  • High-level organisational and planning skills and attention to detail with demonstrated experience managing competing priorities, meeting deadlines within short timeframes and working independently and as a member of a team in a high-volume work environment.
Desirable skills to have for the role
  • Demonstrated experience in effective people skills and the ability to engage clearly and confidently with stakeholders. '
  • Strong expertise in using Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Project and Outlook and Parliamentary Document Management System.

  • Applicants must hold Australian citizenship.
  • Be willing to undergo an Australian Federal Police Check and completion of the Agency's screening checks, including; Working With Children Check. NDIS Worker Screening Check.
