Our team

Our team at Geoscience Australia focuses on developing cloud-based applications to digitise and streamline workflows, enhancing efficiency and record-keeping. By leveraging low-code platforms like Appian and Power Apps, we optimise processes, improve collaboration, and deliver scalable solutions. Our efforts ensure operational excellence and support scientific productivity, keeping Geoscience Australia at the forefront of research and innovation.

The role

The Developer within Employee Digital Services will be responsible for the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of internal applications used by staff within Geoscience Australia. They will work closely with business owners and senior leadership to ensure that products are fit for purpose and meeting the needs of the organisation. The role reports directly to the Manager of Employee Digital Services.

APS5 Role

In this role as an APS5 you will:

  • Design and build web applications using Appian and Power Apps platforms. 
  • Develop workflows to support and enhance business operations. 
  • Sustain both new and legacy web applications built in Appian and Power Apps platforms. 
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of MySQL Database Management Systems. 
  • Assist in managing database tables, views, and stored procedures.
  • Aid in generating custom reports using database tables and views.
  • Contribute to the design and development of UI components.
  • Learn and apply UX principles to improve user interfaces.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams including product owners, project teams and human-centred designers.  

To be successful in the role as an APS5 you will have:

  • Excellent coding skills in any programming languages. 
  • A willingness to learn Appian and Power Apps programming languages.
  • A willingness to learn and grow in designing and building databases.
  • An interest in UI (user interface) and UX (user experience) design principles.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, encompassing negotiation and representation. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

APS5 Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a related field is desirable.
  • Knowledge of programming concepts and principles.
  • Familiarity with database concepts and structures.
  • Basic understanding of UI and UX principles. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and tools. 
  • Adaptability and willingness to take on new challenges.

APS6 Role

As an APS6 In this role you will:

  • Design and build web applications using Appian and Power Apps platforms. 
  • Develop workflows to support and enhance business operations. 
  • Sustain both new and legacy web applications built in Appian and Power Apps platforms. 
  • Design and build complicated Database Management Systems. 
  • Manage database tables, views, and stored procedures. 
  • Prepare bespoke reports using database tables and views. 
  • Design and construct aesthetically pleasing UI components that are easy to maintain and can be reused. 
  • Apply your UX skills to build user-friendly web applications.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams including business owners, project teams and human centred designers.  

To be successful in the role as an APS6 you will have:

  • Sublime coding skills in any programming languages. 
  • A willingness to learn Appian and Power Apps programming languages.
  • Proven experience in designing and building robust databases. 
  • Proficiency in UI and UX design principles. 
  • Proactive mindset, set priorities and capable of meeting stringent deadlines. 
  • Excellent communication skills, encompassing negotiation and representation. 
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain productive working relationships. 
  • A commitment to understanding and meeting the needs of Geoscience, ensuring solutions align with Geoscience goals.

APS6 Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a related field is highly desirable. 
  • Over 2 years of hands-on coding experience. 
  • Experience in Appian or Power Apps platforms is highly desirable. 
  • Proficiency in designing and developing Database Management Systems (MySQL, MariaDB). 
  • Adept understanding of UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) principles. 
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Proficiency in using JIRA for efficient project management. 
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the development lifecycle and collaborative processes.
