Job description

4 month labour hire contract to cover long service leave | Work with the nation’s leading body in health and medical research | 60% WFH option

Our client is the nation’s leading expert body in health and medical research. Operating as an independent statutory agency, they create knowledge and build capability through investment in the most advanced health and medical research.

This organisation offers the chance to work with some of the most respected professionals in the medical and health sector and have a tangible impact on Australian health outcomes.

The Opportunity

A short-term (4-month contract) opportunity is currently available with the Governance and Legal Section of this independent statutory agency of the Department of Health and Ageing portfolio. Working within a small Agency of under 250 staff, you will get exposure to the SES that you would never experience in larger Departments.

The Role

Working in a small team of 8 staff, you will work alongside a Legal Officer and report to the Director.  This contract is to cover a staff member’s long-service leave so no extension would be offered beyond the initial 4-months and therefore, it’s key you have demonstrated experience in FOI to be considered for this role.

Your duties will include:
  • Responding to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests (including redacting documents, drafting decisions and providing timely and high-quality advice), ensuring strict statutory timeframes are met in line with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth)
  • Managing other FOI activities, including reporting
  • Other work within the section, which may include case-work (responding to complaints, possible privacy breaches, and fraud and corruption matters) and development and review of policies and processes
  • Communicating with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, providing prompt, efficient and personalised service, and
  • Drafting briefs and reports for the Executive, ministerial briefings, committee papers and correspondence
The Ideal Person

Due to the short-term nature of this role, you must have demonstrated experience working in FOI, preferably with federal or state government.

In addition, you will be well-versed in the relevant applicable legislation, specifically the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth). Working within s small sized Government Statutory Agency, you will need to be able to work effectively within a small team, apply sound judgement and work with minimal supervision in what is often a very fast-paced environment.

Salary / Rate
  • $60/hr – $70/hr + 11% Super
  • Canberra based role
  • Flexible and WFH arrangements can be negotiated for the right candidate
