APS6 FOI & Governance Position in the Federal Government in Canberra

This Government Department is working at the forefront of delivering a high level of policies and programs to the public contributing to their health and well-being. An exciting opportunity currently exists for a driven FOI & governance officer to join the team for an initial 4-month contract. This collaborative and warm team are looking for a highly organised, energetic, and dedicated individual that will be responsible for:
- Responding to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests (including redacting documents, drafting decisions and providing timely and high-quality advice), ensuring strict statutory time frames are met in line with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth)
- Managing other FOI activities, including reporting
- Other work within the section, which may include case-work (responding to complaints, possible privacy breaches, and fraud and corruption matters) and development and review of policies and processes.
- Communicating with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, providing prompt, efficient and personalised service, and
- Drafting briefs and reports for the Executive, ministerial briefings, committee papers and correspondence.
Your new role
This role involves working in a fast-paced team environment and requires you to have knowledge of governance and Freedom of Information processes and the act. Previous experience in FOI and a knowledge of governance frameworks is a must. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills will see you stand out in this role as you will engage with other teams across the Department.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will be a high-performing individual who has worked in policy development, data analysis, FOI and reporting, and have an understanding of privacy laws and legislation as well as the ability to:
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships
- Apply judgement, intelligence, common sense and good attention to detail, and work as part of a team and with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment.
You must be an Australian citizen to apply and, if found successful, undergo a National Police Check.
