The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.A new role awaitsDo you have an eye for detail, as well as a desire to make a difference in the lives of participants with significant and permanent disability?The NDIA is seeking APS6 Internal Review Officers to join the Reviews Branch.Review Officers are delegates of the CEO authorised to make decisions on requests of reviewable decisions as outlined by the legislation. Duties include communicating with applicants, participants and/or their representatives to understand the context of their request, ensuring all relevant evidence is available to the decision maker, weighing evidence and decision making in accordance with the legislation. The Review Officer is also required to articulately communicate decisions to authorised persons and explain external review rights.Where you can add value Our ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to the disability sector and have the ability to work through complex, sensitive and difficult matters. You will be able to review decisions in a timely and professional manner. This role has a strong focus on participant contact both in writing and via the telephone.Main elements of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Reviewing confidential participant records, interpreting evidence/information, and applying relevant legislation to form assessments and make decisions as prescribed in the NDIS Act, Operational Guidelines and NDIA policies.
  • Providing explanations of decisions, and writing clear, plain English, evidenced based decision justifications and outcome letters.
  • For planning decisions, implementing decisions by way of updating participant plans and calculating funded supports in line with guidance.
  • Communicating external review rights.

  • A positive contemporary attitude to people with a disability and value social inclusion and diversity.
  • Confidence in speaking with external stakeholders, navigating difficult conversations and managing conflictual interactions.
  • Ability to deescalate situations, with strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and manage workloads.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet business KPIs and individual targets.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in collaboration with other staff as well as operate autonomously.
  • Experience interpreting and applying legislation.
  • Ability to competently use IT systems including Microsoft Office and record management systems is essential.
  • Previous Public Service experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Background in law or allied health would be desirable but not essential.

While this role is ideally performed from VIC - Geelong, VIC - Richmond, NSW - Charlestown, NSW - Parramatta, SA- Adelaide & QLD - Brisbane remote working arrangements may be considered.
