Our client is seeking to engage an APS6 – Policy Adviser on a contract until 30/06/2024, with 1 X 12 months extension option.

Position Summary
The Policy Specialist will straddle two inter-related work streams  and play a key role in ensuring alignment between these work streams and associated activities to support the successful delivery of the Program.

Specific Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the work plans.
  • Provide input to drafting instructions to Lawyers.
  • Support the scoping, development and costing of options for Australian Government consideration.
  • Support the development of operating parameters and an operating model for a potential new entity through consultation and collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and support stakeholder engagement with state and territory governments including scheduling of meetings, recording stakeholder comments and feedback.
  • Contribute to the development of high-level written material, submissions and briefs.
  • Identify and manage risks and issues including escalation of risks and issues where required.
  • Ensure alignment with PSMB Program work streams and activities where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the governance and reporting of the Program.
  • General administrative support.
  • Other tasks as required.

Essential Skills / Experience Required:
  • Strong policy development and implementation
  • Ability to draft well-written papers including submissions and briefs.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office.
To be successful in this role, the individual will need to be self-motivated and have a strong ability to make connections between work streams. They will also need to have strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills, good organisational and writing skills and attention to detail of a high order.

Desirable Skills / Experience:

Experience in:

  • contributing to the drafting legal instructions and/or MoUs and/or
  • scoping, development and costing of options for Australian Government consideration
  • development of operating models
  • establishing new functions / entities / agencies

Security Requirements:
  • Negative Vetting Level 1 preferred, baseline as minimum.
