Job description

GFB Fisheries is an industry leading Barramundi Aquaculture company located across two sites in North Queensland. Bowen in the beautiful Whitsundays and Townsville in the Tropical North.

Coral Coast Barramundi, located in Bowen in the beautiful Whitsundays is a fully integrated Barramundi farm with our own Breeding Facility, Hatchery and Nursery Rearing Facility, Growout Raceway System and HACCP approved Processing Facility.

Spring Creek Barramundi, located in Townsville in the Tropical North is a Zero Discharge, Recirculating Pond Based Aquaculture System. The farm is fed from crystal clear water drawn from sub-artesian sand aquafer sources.

We are upskilling our teams, and there is an opportunity for successful applicants to undertake a fully paid for Certificate 3 in Aquaculture whilst working on one of our farms. The SFI30119 Certificate III in Aquaculture, run by Seafood and Maritime Training is approx. an 18-month course that focusses on the care of Aquatic Stock in the Aquaculture sector. At the completion of this course, you will have the skill set required to develop your career within the Aquaculture industry. We are seeking keen, hardworking and reliable applicants that have an interest in the rapidly growing Aquaculture Industry. Applicants can be mature age or school leavers looking for a new career.

This position is fulltime, 40 hours per week, year-round.

Duties and responsibilities that accompany this position:

  • Fish Feeding
  • Fish Harvesting
  • Fish Processing
  • Testing WQ Parameter's
  • Parasite Checks and Treatments
  • Installation of New Systems
  • Experimental Feed Trials
  • Machinery Operation
  • Operation and Maintenance of Control Systems
  • Research and Development Work

Experience in the Aquaculture field or general farm work will be looked upon favorably, however this is not a requirement. The position will be hands on and require outdoors type work, so experience in this type of work setting is beneficial. The successful applicant will be reliable, physically fit, self-motivated and a good problem solver.
