Job description

Nestled amongst a beautiful courtyard garden, McKinnon Psychology is a bespoke private practice located in the heart of the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.

Our mission is to deliver clinical excellence in the psychological assessment and treatment of anxiety and traumatic stress conditions across the lifespan. We aim to help individuals learn ways of coping with life stress and anxiety at the earliest stage possible, as intervening early can set the stage for a happy and fulfilling life. We are focused on providing clients with clinical care of the highest quality.

The practice was founded by Dr Anna McKinnon (Clinical Psychologist, Board Approved Supervisor and Researcher). Anna's inspiration for opening the practice stemmed from years of treating anxiety and traumatic stress responses at prominent clinics in both the UK and Australia.

Practice Values:

McKinnon Psychology is founded on core values of:

Relationships – A trusting and collaborative relationship between psychologist and client encourages clients to develop confidence, change their ways of coping and develop their strengths.

Compassion – Our psychologists treat all clients with kindness and respect and show understanding, care and a strong desire to help.

Evidence - Our psychologists adopt approaches that are based on the best available research evidence.

Personalisation - Our psychologists recognise that every client has unique needs and all of our treatment plans are personalised to meet these needs.

Whole-person orientation - We recognise that assessing the whole person is important, including the range of psychological, biological, social, environmental and physical factors that can impact a person’s health and well-being. We collaborate with other health disciplines to treat complex mental health issues where appropriate.

Diversity - Our clinic celebrates diversity in all forms.

McKinnon Psychology is a workplace where psychologists can share ideas, inspire and support one another whilst working autonomously. The practice is committed to promoting the self-care and well-being of staff. The practice is dedicated to assisting you in developing areas of interest and building your individual profile in the psychology community. Regular supervision opportunities are available and we also operate a peer supervision program.

The Role:

The practice has a position available for a Registered Clinical Psychologist (with endorsement) or a Registered Psychologist (with 4+ years of experience). The role consists of a contracting position (1-3 days per week). Remuneration is generous and will be discussed at the time of the interview.

We are looking for candidates with either a special interest in working with clients in one of our focus areas and/or with an interest in neuropsychological/cognitive assessments as this is an arm of the clinic we are looking to develop over the coming months. You should apply for this role if you have an interest in one of the following focus areas:

  • Evidence-based trauma treatments such as EMDR, Schema Therapy and/or Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
