About the team:
City Development branch resides in the Planning and Regulation department and is responsible for the management and assessment of customer development applications, including the provision of planning and building advice, development assessment and improvement, infrastructure change review, developer contributions, infrastructure compliance and planning appeals and research.
We are a diverse team made up of Engineers, Planners and more. We are a friendly and respectful team with varied personalities and backgrounds. We work closely with local contractors and the development industry. No two days are ever the same and a good sense of humour is a must in Water and Waste Assessment.
About your new role:
An exciting opportunity exists for a permanent full-time Assessment Engineer, there is also potential for an additional fixed term contract opportunity.
The Assessment Engineer manages the assessment of development applications and prepares internal referral memos in accordance with the Planning Act 2016 and assesses Connection Applications in accordance with the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring) Act 2009.
Your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Review, assess and provide recommendations for Council’s water, sewer, and solid waste interests in planning applications.
- Assess build over or near sewer referrals.
- Provision of technical advice to Planning Assessment and other City staff.
- Answer queries from internal and external customers in relation to water, sewer and solid waste interests were related to planning applications.
- Attendance to meetings or other duties as determined necessary by Supervisor.
What you bring to your new role:

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical) or equivalent knowledge
- Valid Australian Driver Licence
- White Card
- Possess a high level of self-motivation and initiative, with the ability to work unsupervised.
- Have strong time management and organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer service focus.
- Demonstrated ability of working in a fast-paced team environment
