About the role

As the Asset Planner - OCS, you will develop the Annual works Plan (AWP) related to infrastructure communications assets within the V/Line network as part of the Major Periodic Maintenance (MPM) Program.

These assets could include Train Control Systems (TCS), Operational Communication Systems (OCS), Data Network & Systems Monitoring, Level Crossing & Points Condition Monitoring Systems, Surveillance & Security Systems, Wireless Systems and Passenger Information Displays (PIDS).

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Prepare and develop Stage Gate 1 Project Brief in line with MPM Framework requirements to outline project scope of works, options analysis, cost estimates and other associated details of the project.
  • Plan the annual work bank for project inclusion into the MPM Program as part of the AWP.
  • Assist with the development of functional system engineering solutions for renewal of communications assets and processes through stakeholder engagement to ensure that the infrastructure communication assets are safely and optimally maintained based on a lifecycle philosophy.
  • Assist with identifying adverse trends in the performance of communications assets and facilitate root cause analysis to determine rectification measures required for lifecycle analysis purposes.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of asset management practices in line with ISO 55001.
  • Work closely with the Asset Lifecycle Planner to review and update AMPs safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Develop technical discussion papers on asset management / renewal practices for senior management.
  • Develop budget submission papers to the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) in relation to the Annual Works Plan

A day in a life of an Asset Planner here at V/Line will involve problem solving and workshopping scopes of work with our key stakeholders to get the best outcome for V/Line and ultimately the traveling public.

About you

You will have several years' post-graduation experience delivering projects or working as an engineer within an Operational Controls (control systems, communications etc) environment.

You will have rail industry experience or have worked in the transport sector, and will hold an engineering degree in Electronics, Communications, or Electrical engineering (other engineering degrees considered with appropriate control systems experience.)

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Strongly Preferred)
  • Certificate/Diploma in Project Management (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience working with SCADA Systems, virtualization, CCTV, TCP/IP/data/radio networks, telephony and Cyber Security and other IT hardware/software.
  • Rail or Transport Sector working knowledge.

Additionally, you will be organised and able to manage multiple competing priorities and have superior stakeholder engagement skills. You are able to adapt your communication style to different audiences and thrive in a team environment.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity with 4-weeks annual leave, superannuation, and free myki for metro & regional travel.

Occasional site visits will be required however it's expected that the majority of your time (80%) will be from an office location. This role supports a flexible working environment which includes working remotely a few days a week.

Recruitment Timelines

This role is a Medical Category 3 position.

The recruitment and selection process will include a safety aptitude assessment which will be administered prior to the interview rounds.

If you are successful in obtaining an interview, this will be conducted in 2 stages. Video screening will commence soon after the application closing date.

The second stage face to face interviews will commence approximately 2 weeks after the application closing date and will be conducted using Microsoft Teams.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo pre-employment screening including, probity (police) checks, a medical assessment, and Australian entitlement to work. Employees of V/Line are required to maintain a valid Working with Children Check Victoria (Employee) for the duration of employment.
