Job purpose: To assist the Canteen Manager in engaging with the College community and operating the College Canteen to the highest of standards whilst ensuring that the NSW Healthy School Strategy is maintained
Reports to: Canteen Manager
Classification: Maintenance and Canteen Staff Level 2 or 3, based on experience - Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021
Status: Part Time (approximately 30hr per week - negotiable), Term Time (Does not usually work in school holidays)
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Assist in Planning, organising and monitoring the day-to-day operations of the canteen
- Assist in promoting healthy eating at the College through the menu, presentation of food and marketing
- Preparation and cooking of food
- Ordering food and supplies and managing stock levels
- Train and supervise canteen team members
- Ensuring a pleasant working environment for all volunteers
- Grow College community involvement in the canteen
- Provide a high level of customer service to students and staff when preparing food and serving face to face
- Catering for events when required
- Ensuring all canteen workers are familiar with correct food handling and hygiene practices
- Canteen cleaning
- Operating Flexischools (ordering system) and processing lunch orders
- Counting, recording and reconciling daily takings
- Attend Staff Meetings and Professional Development as required
- Other duties as requested by the Headmaster or Canteen Manager
Person Profile: An active Christian person who is team oriented, discreet, able to exercise initiative, reliability, patience, empathy, friendliness and is flexible and willing to consider further study if the opportunity presents.
Specific Job Skills:
- Experience in a food related business or passionate and skilled in cooking, catering and customer service
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Creative and innovative with a willingness to work collaboratively with College staff
- Knowledge of the food and nutrition needs of children
- Leadership skills
- Works well under pressure
- Highly organised
- Excellent time management
- Excellent customer service skills
- Well developed computer skills in Microsoft suite of products
- Respect and understand the need for confidentiality
- An understanding of the expectations relating to Child Protection in a school environment
Minimum Qualifications:
- Food Handling Certificate and Food Safety Certificate or matching experience with a willingness to upgrade qualifications
- Hold a current Working with Children Check
