Australia's largest public museum organisation is seeking a person to undertake research into and data enhancement of the Jenny Bannister collection to improve collection access and documentation, including where appropriate basic image capture.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The position is accountable for enhancing the management and accessibility of the Jenny Bannister collection including the preparation of collection items and narrative records for publication on MV Collections. This will be done by undertaking data enhancement of and research into selected items using the items themselves, internal resources and external resources. 

The successful applicant will have: 

• Demonstrated research experience in a relevant discipline and/or relevant knowledge in one or more of the following fields is essential: Australian Social History; Public History; Material Culture; Fashion; Youth Culture
• Demonstrated experience in the use of a collection management database (KEmu skills are an advantage).
• Demonstrated knowledge of/or experience in contemporary museum collection management practices, including the appropriate handling and use of object-based collections.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Sound time-management skills and interpersonal skills; including demonstrated ability to work effectively both in a team and as an individual
• The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).

The key duties of the position will be to: 

• Improve the documentation of the Jenny Bannister collection including physical descriptions, dimensions, object summaries, associations and image capture as required to prepare items for publication on MV Collections.
• Undertake research into selected items and update collection database.
• Develop narratives for items or groups of items for publication on MV Collections.
• Appropriately handle selected collection items, adhering to and adapting appropriate guidelines and procedures.
• In consultation with relevant curatorial staff liaise with the collection donor and other relevant stakeholders to assist with collection research.
• Comply with Museums Victoria's policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations.

OTHER INFORMATION

This is a part-time, fixed-term position (two days per week) for 36 weeks. The salary on offer is $56,834 (pro rata) + 11% superannuation.
