The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent government agency which, in partnership with Basin governments, manages the Murray–Darling Basin’s water resources in the national interest. With the enactment of the Water Act 2007, the MDBA was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.

The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Murray–Darling Basin contains a rich diversity of natural environments that are unique in Australia and the world. The Basin is also crucial to Australia’s economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 50 First Nations. How we manage the Basin as a whole connected system, manage our water carefully, and protect it for future generations is set out in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

The Position

The Assistant Director, BPR Reporting is a strategic thinker with strong management and leadership skills as well as possesses the flexibility, motivation and desire to make a difference. 

The Assistant DirectorBPR Reporting is skilled at monitoring, evaluation and reporting, can work independently, demonstrates initiative, and is driven by outcomes. The successful candidate will actively engage across the MDBA, other agencies and key stakeholders to deliver monitoring, reporting and evaluation priorities for the Murray Darling Basin Authority.

Your key responsibilities in this role are to:

  • Lead the development of innovative strategies and solutions for reporting and evaluating on Basin Plan implementation and effectiveness.
  • Liaise across all spheres of government and other stakeholders on issues relating to the 2025 Evaluation of the Basin Plan and monitoring frameworks.
  • Provide support to inter-jurisdictional working groups.
  • Develop and implement work plans, sets work area priorities and deliver evaluation and reporting projects.
  • Develop and manage relationships with stakeholders through engagement and collaboration in order to achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation.
  • Assess options and make judgements of diverse and complex information through the application of evaluative and problem-solving thinking.
