The Position
We are seeking an experienced HR professional to join our small team. As part of the Reef Authority’s broader People Services team, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of a range of strategic HR initiatives and operational processes.
The positions leads a small team responsible for the delivery of recruitment and payroll services along with capability development and systems, reporting and analytics.
You will be a leader and a team player, working closely and collaboratively with the broader People Services team and a diverse network of customers and stakeholder internally and externally. You will help to identify continuous improvement initiatives and utilise agile ways of working to support business deliverables.
The current position is ongoing however through this process may create a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 18 months.
Duties
- Actively participate, as part of a committed team member, to the work of the People Services Section, including contributing to delivering the broader Reef Authority’s corporate objectives and be responsible for setting and managing work priorities and monitoring progress to achieve results, demonstrating the ability to be agile and responsive to changing requirements.
- Lead, guide and coach a team of HR professionals across a diverse program of work including pay and conditions, HR systems and reporting, recruitment and workforce capability. This will include providing clear guidance and direction to the team and supporting their ongoing personal and professional development.
- Provide advice on a range of routine and complex HR related matters within your responsibility including resolving escalated service related queries from customers.
- Develop briefing papers, correspondence, reports, presentations and other communications to support organisational and APS wide reporting and compliance.
- Maintain strategic awareness of Commonwealth policies and positions affecting the section’s products and services, and comply with Commonwealth frameworks, legislation, and policies.
- Develop and monitor metrics for key service-level indicators to evaluate the accuracy of advice, response rates, and overall effectiveness and quality of responses, in support of shaping the People Services capability, products and services.
- Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders to ensure services and advice are fit for purpose and to support the delivery of organisational priorities.
- Lead the delivery of priority HR strategic initiatives and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the People Services team.
As an APS employee you may be reassigned to a different set of duties at the same classification level at the discretion of the agency head (CEO), taking account of operational requirements in the agency.
Eligibility requirements & qualifications
Applicants must:

- be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance, failure to do so will result in termination of employment.
Essential requirements
- Tertiary level qualifications in Human Resources, AHRI accreditation and/or minimum 5 years equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience leading diverse teams in a HR setting.
