  • Develop and hone your copyediting skills as part of a fun and supportive team
  • Join a company that helps to educate some of Australia's largest and most well-known businesses
  • Work for an established market leader with an innovative product used by the world's elite businesses

Our Company

IBISWorld is looking for a dedicated, client-focused Assistant Editor to join our Editorial team. We are a client-driven global organisation that conducts company and industry research across thousands of global and domestic markets. Our offices in Melbourne, London, Frankfurt, Los Angeles and New York employ talented people who work hard to give our clients the information they need to excel.

At IBISWorld, we are proud of our company culture and values, and we strive to create an environment where people look forward to coming to work every day. We actively promote a supportive and collaborative workplace, where everyone has the opportunity to influence how we think about our products and grow our business.

The Role

This role is a great entry-level opportunity to apply your copyediting skills while building a career with a fast-growing organisation. As an Assistant Editor, you will contribute to our company's mission of helping clients make better business decisions by editing market research reports and making sure they adhere to IBISWorld's writing standards and style guidelines.

You will be provided with on-the-job training when you first join IBISWorld, and your colleagues will support you in learning about our product and your role.

Reporting to the Editorial Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

  • Copyediting economic reports for spelling, punctuation and grammar issues
  • Making corrections to reports without altering the meaning or logic of the content
  • Conducting in-depth reviews of reports, making detailed edits and suggestions
  • Ensuring that reports adhere to company writing and style guidelines
  • Liaising with authors to resolve writing or logic issues in reports in a timely manner
  • Performing basic layout and typesetting tasks in InDesign and Illustrator
  • Working with other editors to refine styles, systems, guidelines and more; helping update department manuals and guides as needed
  • Collaborating with the Editorial team, authors and managers
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, publishing or equivalent
  • Attention to detail, impeccable grammar skills and experience using style guides
  • Able to help connect the content with the audience
  • Able to learn new subjects and applications quickly
  • Strong organisation and time management skills (must be able to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards)
  • Flexible to effectively deal with unexpected assignments based on management priorities or client requests
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise and collaborate
  • Work well with others, but also self-motivating and autonomous
  • Sound computer skills

Preferred Attributes

  • General knowledge of business and economic concepts and experience working at a business publication would be highly regarded
  • Economics or maths background is an advantage
  • Experience as a proofreader or copyeditor preferred

What we offer

  • Flexible working hours and hybrid work-from-home arrangements
  • Internal career progression opportunities
  • Professional development and training
  • A relaxed dress code
  • Friday afternoon company-wide meet ups
  • Subsidised gym membership at the Grand Hyatt City Club
  • Employee benefits and rewards via free breakfast, fruit and the Perkbox app

Salary: $55,000 p.a.

If you think you are the ideal candidate for this position, please apply online by submitting your resume and a brief cover letter explaining how your skills and experience align with this role. Please note that only successful candidates will be contacted, and only applications with a cover letter will be considered.
