Job description

Are you a passionate leader with a deep commitment to sustainability and operational excellence? Are you ready to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of responsible forestry in Tasmania?
About Us
Sustainable Timber Tasmania (STT) is Tasmania’s forest manager, and managing the forest respectfully, innovatively and sustainably is at the heart of everything we do – our work is about more than making our forests productive, we’re here to keep them healthy and thriving.
We are proud to be recognised as a Tasmanian Employer of Choice. We value diversity, equity and inclusion and are a workplace where people feel they are treated fairly and with respect. We encourage suitably qualified applicants of all ages, abilities, genders, cultures and linguistic backgrounds, including people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent, to apply.
Our Values
Respect we create safe places
Responsibility we take ownership
Growth we create sustainable value
Excellence we make it happen
About the role
Sustainable Timber Tasmania, a leader in sustainable forest management, is seeking an Assistant General Manager of Operations to join our dynamic team. In this key role, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of our operational activities, ensuring we deliver on our promise of environmental responsibility, economic viability, and community engagement.
This is a permanent full-time position and, whilst it is preferred that the successful candidate is based in Hobart, location in another STT office in Tasmania may be negotiated with the successful applicant. Some intrastate travel will be required in this role.
About you
Importantly, as the Assistant General Manager Operations you will:

  • Be a strong and effective leader with proven senior management experience in a challenging commercial environment
  • Have expert knowledge of commercial forestry practices, contracts, logging principles and operations including safety and environment protection
  • Be adept at developing strong working relationships with contractors and customers to meet business requirements
Take a look at the Position Description but remember that, whilst it outlines the responsibilities and expectations of the role considered key to success, it is intended as a supplement to the recruitment process.
What's on offer
  • A permanent, full-time position
  • Salary up to $180K + Superannuation
  • Vehicle with part-private use
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Variety of work and autonomy
Plus, our employees overwhelmingly agree that STT is:
  • A workplace where you are treated with respect, and
  • An organisation that is committed to building a culture of diversity and inclusion.
