Fixed Term, Part-Time Role
The Assistant Radiation Safety Officer will sit within the Health Safety and Wellbeing team provide support for the implementation of the Radiation Safety program. The Assistant Radiation Safety Officer will measure, interpret and report on radioactivity and radiation measurements, will develop and maintain Radiation Management Plans and undertake a range of task to ensure effective radiation protection management.
This role is fixed term for two years at .2 EFT and reports to the Radiation Safety Officer.

Position Summary
Peter Mac has a large inventory of radiation sources, used for the diagnosis, treatment and research of cancer. It is essential that the safety of patients and staff is ensured, and that compliance with radiation regulatory requirements is maintained.
The Assistant Radiation Safety Officer will provide support for the implementation of the Radiation Safety program. The Assistant Radiation Safety Officer will measure, interpret and report on radioactivity and radiation measurements, will develop and maintain Radiation Management Plans and undertake a range of task to ensure effective radiation protection management.

  • Higher degree in a scientific discipline

1. Implement and maintain a radiation monitoring program • Administration of the personal dose assessment program
  • Assist in the assessment, interpretation and reporting of radioactive contamination
  • Assist in the assessment, interpretation and reporting of radiation dose rates
2. Assist in the implementation of the Radiation Safety program • Routine review and contributing to the development of Radiation Management Plans
  • Assist in periodic assessment in the standards of radiation protection
3. Administration of radiation protection data • Ensure that registers of radioactive sources and radiation apparatus are current
  • Co-ordinate the calibration of radiation protection instrumentation
  • Organise meeting and take minutes
4. Radiation Protection Education • Assist in the development of radiation protection training packages, their delivery, organization and attendance lists
