About the Position
We are seeking an Assistant Research Officer to join the Agreements team. The Assistant Research Officer works as part of a team providing direct support to Commission Members on workplace relations issues, particularly in relation to enterprise agreement related matters.
As an Assistant Research Officer, you will use your knowledge of the federal workplace relations system to undertake research and analysis of applications for the approval, termination and/or variation of enterprise agreements to ensure that agreements meet the requirements of the Fair Work Act 2009 and provide other research and administrative support to Members, FWC managers and the public.
The team also provides subject matter expertise to the General Manager and the wider Commission.
The Agreements team is predominately made up of Research Officers, who are supported by a leadership team comprised of Team Leaders, three Assistant Directors and a Director.
Duties
Under general direction, as a member of a small team:
- Undertake less complex research and analysis on workplace relations issues, including those in relation to agreements and other matters under the Fair Work Act 2009, and prepare reports and other correspondence. This may include:
- analysing applications for approval, termination and/or variation of enterprise agreements and supporting documentation to ensure that agreements meet the requirements of the Fair Work legislation and relevant case law;
- using the Commission’s case management system to accurately record activities undertaken;
- email interaction with the chambers of Members of the Commission to advise on issues arising from agreement analysis or other research and seek direction;
- preparing summaries of submissions;
- under the direction of a Commission Member, drafting decisions;
- appropriately communicating issues and information to Members, internal staff and external parties;
- assist in the collection of agreement-related data for the purposes of internal analysis and/or published reports.
- Undertake administrative tasks supporting the work of the tribunal in relation to agreement-related matters, including publishing material on the Commission’s website.
- Draft documents such as briefing notes, web materials, information materials and correspondence. Where required, proofread and review of documents drafted by other team members.
- Use the organisation’s record management, filing and reporting systems to maintain records, manage documentation, manage workflow and collate reports.
- Contribute new ideas and maximise the benefits of change, including the identification of opportunities to improve the efficiency of business processes.
- Assist in all areas of the Tribunal Support Branch and undertake other duties as directed by the Executive Director – Tribunal Support, Director – Agreements and Assistant Directors – Agreements Operations/Projects.
