Job description

The TeamThe Launceston Area Office services the federal electoral divisions of Bass and Lyons. You'll work closely with our other divisions in Burnie and Hobart, forming strong team bonds and regularly sharing information. We have a tight knit team who work hard, are passionate about democracy and look out for each other. You will also be one of a network of service officers across the country, responsible for undertaking a range of complex and challenging administrative functions in the areas of enrolment, electoral roll maintenance and election planning and delivery. Being part of the team at election time involves contributing to and leading a number of key projects within short timeframes and in a complex, high-pressure environment. During the election period, you will need to work longer hours, including overtime. Where necessary, you could be required to do overtime on weekends and public holidays during this period. The Launceston Area Office team typically comprises around 5 to 10 staff but increases significantly in the lead up to and during an election, when we onboard additional staff and engage our temporary election workforce, meaning we are working with a wide range of people with amazing skills from diverse backgrounds. At the AEC, you will develop strong connections with colleagues and supportive networks, as we all work to deliver an impartial and independent electoral system with high integrity. The OpportunityWe are looking for an agile, energetic, self-motivated, results-driven, and experienced professional to lead a team in managing divisional election planning, delivery, and evaluation. A proactive individual who can work under pressure, work independently and under limited guidance, while being comfortable working within a team environment. You will join a leadership team that is committed to supporting and empowering its people to build their technical capability as well as their broader professional development. During the preparation phase of the electoral cycle, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the electoral roll for approximately 80,000 electors within your division, so they can exercise their franchise at federal, state, and local government elections. While doing this, you will also be responsible for leading your team to prepare for the next federal election or referendum. You will contribute to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives. This will include setting priorities for the work area, maintaining team cohesion, and ensuring the quality of the team’s work outputs.Once we move to the mobilisation phase of the electoral cycle, you will work with Team Leaders and other Assistant Team Leaders across Australia to deliver the election across the divisional network. You will be expected to use your leadership skills to supervise the management of our temporary election workforce and completion of a range of election activities within your division.
