Chalmers are an established name in Australian viticulture with a reputation for excellence, innovation and diversity. The family were named 2014 Viticulturists of the Year by Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine. They have been making wine for over 20 years while their Merbein winery was established in 2017 at the site of the Chalmers Merbein vineyard and nursery. The boutique operation produces estate grown Australian wines under the following labels: Chalmers, Montevecchio, Mother Block, Dott, Le Sorelle, Chalmers Project and Mother Block.
About the Position
The Assistant Winemaker position is a full time permanent role reporting to the Head Winemaker. It is a hands on role which includes all aspects of wine production, quality control and traceability as well as day to day operations scheduling and assisting with managing vintage cellarhands. The job requires excellent practical skills, clear and effective communication, impeccable record keeping, a passion for quality, attention to detail, punctuality and pride in your work. Tertiary qualifications in Oenology are essential. Multiple vintages of practical winemaking experience and a thorough knowledge of a range of winemaking practices, grape varieties and wine styles are expected. Knowledge and experience in the viticulture is favourable but not essential. This role also involves running repairs and maintenance in the cellar so mechanical knowledge and experience will be a bonus for the applicant. The person filling this role will be up to speed with current information technology and highly competent at operating a diverse range of winery equipment.
