The Opportunity
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, UNSW has an opportunity for an Associate Lecturer. You will make contributions to teaching in the School and carry out activities to maintain and develop your scholarly research and professional activities.
We are seeking a dynamic individual to join the humanitarian engineering program at UNSW. The position includes teaching undergraduate humanitarian engineering classes and contributing to, and developing your own, research on Humanitarian and Environmental issues. Experience or an interest in the Pacific region is advantageous and the desire to contribute to a large research program designed to create and measure impact at the environmental and societal level. You will be joining a dynamic research team comprised of UNSW academics, international academics, and regional United Nations and multilateral agencies.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career academic looking to lay the foundations for their career in academia. The role of Associate Lecturer reports to Dr. Andrew Dansie and Prof Will Glamore and has nil direct reports.

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is in the Faculty of Engineering that has over 3,300 students and an operating budget of over $23 million. Skills & Experience:
  • A PhD in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following research areas:
  • Field and laboratory analysis or water, sediment and/or air samples.
  • Coastal dynamics including sediment, ecological, and societal considerations.
  • Use of indicators to measures and assess impact and progress towards United Nations SDGs, Carbon Net Zero goals or similar.
  • Developing and conducting household surveys and stakeholder interviews.
  • Remote sensing skills related to satellites and other related data platforms.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated experience in and passion for teaching and learning design, development and/or delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Knowledge of educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Experience engaging students and fostering independent learning through meaningful assessment and helpful feedback.
  • Evidence of and/or preparedness to undertake professional development of teaching practice.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
