  • An exciting opportunity for an Associate Lecturer/ Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to contribute to Teaching and Research into to the discipline of Occupational Therapy within the School of Health Sciences

  • Located at the Susan Wakil Health Building on the Camperdown Campus

  • Full time or part time continuing position, offering a remuneration package starting from $83,454 to $ 167,221, p.a + 17% superannuation

The Discipline of Occupational Therapy is a global leader in allied health. We are at the forefront of enhancing Occupational Therapy practice, policy and education in Australia by extending the knowledge base of the profession and educating leading practitioners. The Sydney School of health Sciences is ranked 4th in the world for sports related subjects encompassing sport, physical therapy and rehabilitation, which includes Occupational Therapy. We are seeking an Associate Lecturer/Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer (Level A, B or C) in the discipline of Occupational Therapy who is enthusiastic to advance health education for the next generation of occupational therapists and progress research to improve health outcomes in all communities. The incumbent will be committed to make significant contribution to Teaching and learning and engage in educational leadership within their School/ Faculty.

This is a continuing 40% (teaching), 40% (research), and 20% (service) position, and offers an opportunity to develop and contribute to research and teaching in Occupational Therapy as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Faculty of Medicine and Health.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

Level A:

  • Conduct research or scholarly activity, independently or as part of a team, contributing to discipline knowledge

  • undertake teaching of undergraduate and graduate students in discipline, contributing to outstanding Teaching and learning outcomes

  • engage in high-quality Teaching and learning experiences which meet the university’s expectations and standards for education

  • develop and refine independent research skills under the supervision of more senior academic staff

  • build a professional profile through participation in conferences, seminars, and outreach activities

  • undertake teaching of undergraduate and graduate students in discipline, contributing to outstanding Teaching and learning outcomes

  • develop and refine independent research skills under the supervision of more senior academic staff

  • build a professional profile through participation in conferences, seminars, and outreach activities

  • undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.

Level B:

  • Undertake a leadership role in educational innovation, curriculum design and review, contributing to outstanding educational delivery and outcomes

  • engage in high-quality Teaching and learning experiences which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education

  • design and deliver quality educational units of study and experiences that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements

  • design and deliver multi-disciplinary work-integrated learning units and content

  • engage in supervision of higher-degree research students

  • apply scholarship and knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to innovate education

  • carry out administrative tasks primarily connected with the area of discipline

  • contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled

  • establish partnerships, collaborations and engage in translational research for impactful outcomes in research, development, commercialisation, and policy improvement

  • establish collaborations and partnerships to enhance the research profile and reputation of the university

  • undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required.


In addition, level C will:

  • Be a subject matter expert, who can work under broad direction to deliver goals strategically and autonomously within set timeframes

  • resolve complex matters, provide sound advice and exercise independent judgement to achieve goals related to Teaching and Research

  • be able to take on staffing responsibilities as appropriate or determine resourcing needs.


About you:

Level A:

  • A degree in Occupational Therapy

  • developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality research.

  • clinical experience as an occupational therapist in neurology, community practice, occupational/ work rehabilitation or clinical education highly desirable

  • eligibility for registration  with AHPRA Australia or existing registration  with AHPRA is desirable

  • proven experience in supervising and mentoring students

  • experience in Teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team Teaching and teaching in a variety of settings

  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating Teaching and learning initiatives

  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities.

Level B:

  • A PHD or equivalent in the discipline of Occupational Therapy or relevant field (Level B-C)

  • strong research profile evidenced by original, high-quality research

  • proven strong clinical experience as an occupational therapist in neurology, community practice, occupational/ work rehabilitation or clinical education highly desirable

  • eligibility for registration with AHPRA Australia or existing registration with AHPRA is desirable

  • strong proven experience in supervising and mentoring students

  • developed knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector

  • proven experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity.


In addition level C must:

  • Proven reputation at a national level as influential in expanding knowledge, pedagogical or curriculum innovation

  • evidence of an established network of academic, industry and professional partners and stakeholders

  • developed knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector

  • significant experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity.
