Job description

We are seeking to appoint an Associate to support his Honour Judicial Registrar Gurry at the County Court of Victoria, on a full-time, fixed term basis. Judicial Registrar Gurry sits principally in the General, Applications and Serious Injury Lists of the Common Law Division.
The County Court of Victoria has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria. The County Court of Victoria hears over 12,000 criminal, common law and commercial cases each year. The Court's vision is to be a leader in court excellence, delivering the highest standard of justice to the community and inspiring public confidence in the rule of law.
As the Associate to a Judicial Registrar you will gain valuable experience in a court environment and develop an understanding of court processes and procedures. Associates liaise extensively with the legal profession and observe the work of advocates and the judiciary.
As Judicial Registrar Gurry's associate, you will provide a high level of operational, administrative and technical legal support to his Honour both in court and in chambers, within a dynamic, complex, demanding and sensitive environment. The role involves case file management and may include legal research and writing.
Ideally you will have a particular interest in Common Law, a high level of attention to detail, excellent organisational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment. Your ability to balance competing demands on your time, work well under pressure and communicate with persons of diverse backgrounds including self-represented litigants, will be highly regarded.
A law degree and/or experience in Victorian legal practice will be viewed favourably. Recent law graduates, legal practitioners, and candidates interested in a future at the Victorian Bar, are encouraged to apply.
