AFMA is the statutory agency responsible for the efficient and sustainable management of fisheries resources on behalf of the Australian community. It has primary responsibility for managing fisheries within the 200 nautical mile Australian Fishing Zone (AFZ) and Australian fishing boats on the high seas. This responsibility extends to the detection and investigation of illegal activities by both domestic and foreign fishing boats in the AFZ and Commonwealth-managed fisheries. The successful candidate will be appointed for up to five years on the basis of claims against core selection criteria and demonstration of high level expertise in one or more of the following fields:
- Fisheries Management
- fishing industry operations
- matters relating to recreational or Indigenous fishing
- science
- economics
- law
- natural resource management
- business or financial management
- public sector administration or governance.
- experience with or understanding of board/CEO relationships and the capacity to work to and with a board
- experience relevant to engaging with ministers and the Parliament.
