ABOUT THE DIVISION & SECTION
The SDO is a leader in providing services under the Whole-of-Government Shared Services Program. The SDO presents a unique opportunity to be involved in developing innovative service delivery arrangements, with an approach to collaborating and sharing of resources that has the potential to add value not only for existing client agencies but to set the scene for new ways of working across the Australia Public Service.
The Operations and Service Management Branch is one of two branches within the SDO and provides a range of corporate transactional services to Commonwealth agencies in areas of human resources, payroll, finance and travel and expense management. The Branch works collaboratively with client agencies on delivering services more efficiently, through streamlining processes, increase self-service capability and automating repeatable tasks, to allow staff to focus on high-value, customer service based activities.
The Service Excellence team is responsible for supporting the SDO to continuously improve its business and achieve a high standard of productivity through establishing and monitoring customer experience business improvement activities. The PACE team are responsible for pursuing intelligent automation and other cutting edge technologies, building a consistent, well-governed approach to process automation for the SDO and across government.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
APS 4 Junior Automation Analyst/Developer
The Junior Automation Analyst/Developer is responsible for:
  • Analysing and modifying, under direction, existing automated processes to resolve minor defects or implement simple enhancements.
  • Working under direction and with subject matter experts to define, design, configure, test and release automated business processes.
  • Designing automated process solutions following standard design principles and conventions.
  • Executing processes and practices efficiently and effectively to enhance commercial outcomes in the department.
  • Documenting processes, solutions and testing automated processes.
  • Supporting other areas by contributing to the establishment and implementation of new services and systems within the agency.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders to deliver business objectives.
  • Keeping up-to-date with latest trends in automation and having a willingness to learn emerging technologies.
APS 5 Automation Analyst/Developer
The Automation Analyst/Developer is responsible for:
  • Working with subject matter experts to define, design, configure, test, and release automated business processes.
  • Working under some direction to follow standard design principles and conventions, solve problems and share knowledge to build capability in others.
  • Managing time effectively to deliver automated solutions within prescribed timeframes.
  • Designing automated solutions following best practice design principles, documentation, and governance standards.
  • Analysing and modifying, under limited direction, existing automated processes to resolve defects and implement enhancements.
  • Drafting delivery documentation following best practice design principles.
  • Supporting the daily administration of the Blue Prism environment by problem-solving issues and following change and release process.
  • Supporting business clients during supervised release and production rollout.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders to deliver business objectives.
  • Keeping up-to-date with latest trends in automation and having a willingness to explore and learn emerging technologies.

ELIGIBILITY ADVICE & CANDIDATE NOTES
  • Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.
  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated in the downloadable job pack. All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
  • This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing. Roles may be offered as either ongoing or non-ongoing subject to business needs and/or candidate preference. Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for a specified term of up to 12 months. A specified term may be extended up to a maximum period of 18 months.
