Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have a choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
Job Description
About the Team
Search Quality's mission is to promote and expose Canva's content to current and potential users. Without good discovery, users can't benefit from the wide range of content Canva has on offer. We are responsible for the AI, Machine Learning, Infrastructure and User Experience that powers Canva's discovery experience.
What you'd be doing in this role
- Templates, for finding the starting point for a user's design
- Elements, for exploring the wealth of photos, graphics, videos and audio and finding the one just right for a user's task
- Private content, for finding a user's (or their teammates') previous work and uploaded content
- Work with machine learning engineers to develop and deploy ML models for improved search results
- Design and run experiments to validate and demonstrate the improvements you're making
- Improve and maintain our backend systems for search query understanding and search suggestions
- Support other teams to make use of our search systems, and collaborate on features that support their projects
- Integrate index-based and vector-based search into AI features
- Commercial experience in a software development environment, with a focus on launching systems into production and maintaining a high-quality bar post-launch. Our backend stack is service-oriented, mostly running on Java on AWS Infrastructure managed by Terraform.
- Experience in search and recommendation systems or information retrieval is beneficial.
- Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others.
- Good writing and verbal communication skills.
